Industrial SME´s management benchmarking in Argentina´s northwestern: a multidimensional approach by specifics indexes definition

Abstract: A common problem treated in the literature is to know how the firm configures itself according with its competitive and regional environment. These configuration variables can result diffuse and difficult to interpret. In this article a panel of SMEs belonging to four industrial sectors is analyzed: Metal Mechanic, Construction related industries, food industries and large industries.The large industries group is defined as parameter to carry out the benchmarking analysis. In the present work and by media of four indexes definition, related with competitive attitude, process management, production skills and resources costs management, the SMEs panel is descripted and the firms classified. Anbenchmarking analysis is performed in order to visualize the similarities and differences inter-sector in these subjects. The surveys are carried out by the “Maturity grid approach” and statistical analysis are performed to assure the validity of conclusions. The main results of this work shows that metal-mechanic sector perform better than others in all indexes with exception of cost management. Food sector reveals the better performance in cost management, but the competitive attitude is one of the lowest in the panel. All SMEs sectors perform with important differences to large industries panel, but for the cost management index. The main conclusions of this work reveal that there are important differences about firm’s management along the researched sectors. Having in mind the different environments in whichthese firms developed, the “configuration” phenomena manifest in the firms and in the groups, specially marking the differences of the metalwork panel and large industries panel. This kind of research is not evidenced in the literature. In the industry of Tucumán regions no other works of this characteristic was found.

Resumen: La educación superior debe encontrar las estrategias o caminos adecuados de internacionalizarse; en el caso de estudio de este trabajo, puede observarse que el escenario preexistente coincide en gran medida con las tendencias de IES observadas en países latinoamericanos, donde la estrategia predominante ha sido la movilidad internacional, con niveles muy bajos de internacionalización institucional. De esta manera, ante un escenario de bajo o nulo nivel de internacionalización en la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la UNICEN, se exploró e implementó la Internationalization at Home como una estrategia complementaria, para generar mayores posibilidades de internacionalización.

Redefining the concept of performance and its dimensions in the context of organizational sustainability

Resumen: El objetivo de este artículo consistió en redefinir el concepto de desempeño y sus dimensiones a la luz de la importancia que adquiere en la actualidad el concepto de sustentabilidad en las organizaciones. Para lograr este objetivo se desarrolló una investigación de tipo cualitativa a través de una exploración bibliográfica del tema del desempeño, en función de algunos criterios de selección. Con este análisis se pretendió generar un aporte al estado del arte del desempeño en las organizaciones y promover la incorporación de la sustentabilidad en las prácticas organizacionales. Los resultados obtenidos son, por un lado, un concepto de desempeño y, por otro, la definición de sus dimensiones los cuales no resuelven el problema general de la diversidad de definiciones del término de desempeño pero incluyen un tema que no ha sido abordado con anterioridad, como es la sustentabilidad.
Abstract: The objective of this article was to redefine performance and its dimensions in the light of the importance to the concept of sustainability in organizations. To achieve this goal, developed a type qualitative research through a literature exploring the theme of performance based on some selection criteria. This analysis was intended to generate a contribution to the state of the art of performance in organizations and promote the inclusion of sustainability in organizational practices. The results are a concept of performance and defining its dimensions which do not solve the general problem of the diversity of definitions of performance but include a topic that has not been addressed, such as sustainability.
